Preheat a deep-fryer to 375 degrees F. Alternatively, in a large, sauce pan pour vegetable oil half way.
Mix together cornmeal, garlic, onion powder, cayenne, salt and pepper
Dip each strip into the butter milk and then cover with the breading
Deep fry the fish a few pieces at a time. If the pieces are too big, cut into smaller sizes. Move them around so they don't stick.
Fry until brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes. May vary by size.
Remove fish from fryer and place onto a cooling rack to ensure crispiness.
Sprinkle with lemon juice. Serve with tarter sauce (instructions below).
